Dr. Lance Evans has served as Mississippi’s state superintendent of education since July 2024, focusing on sustaining the state’s academic progress, including its No. 16 national education ranking in the 2026 KIDS COUNT Data Book. Under his leadership, the Mississippi Department of Education launched initiatives such as the Mississippi Superintendent Institute, the Office of School and District Transformation, and the Mississippi REACH (Realizing Excellence for All Children in Mississippi) remote-teaching program to strengthen school leadership, support struggling districts, and expand student access to instruction. He is also working to extend early literacy reforms into middle school, implement math coaching for grades 2–6, and develop a K–12 workforce plan that introduces students to career opportunities throughout their education.
